LVM Attends Orange Catholic Foundation Conference on Business and Ethics

Dubbed as one of the most impactful business events of the year, the Orange Catholic Foundation Conference on Business and Ethics proved to be a wonderful opportunity for business professionals of all faiths and backgrounds to position themselves among the finest in Orange County.  LVM was thrilled to be a guest at this conference, which focused on the importance of values and ethics and recognized two special Orange County honorees for their commitment to these practices in their business and personal lives.

Orange Catholic Foundation LogoContributing to the 11th Annual Conference were keynote speakers, Pat Haden, USC Athletic Director and former USC and LA Rams quarterback, and Richard Riordan, former Mayor of Los Angeles and founder of the UCLA Richard Riordan Programs. Both Haden and Riordan spoke on the importance of ethical practices and how it led them to where they are today.

Presented annually by the Bishop of Orange, the Award for Exemplary Business Integrity is given to senior professionals who meet strict criteria for demonstrating ethical leadership qualities. Joining the select group of 20 who have received this award was Rick Muth, President of ORCO Block Company, ORCO Blended Products and RNVS Real Estate, and Rob Neal, Managing Partner of Hager Pacific, and Interim COO and Board Member for the Christ Catholic Cathedral Corporation.

“Rick and Rob share a steadfast dedication to making decisions and leading their lives based on values and integrity,” said Bishop Kevin Vann. “Both men demonstrate that success in business and in life can be achieved without compromising responsible leadership or your Catholic faith.”

LVM Applauds Multicultural Presence at Newport Beach Film Festival

Known as one of the leading lifestyle film festivals in the United States, the Newport Beach Film Festival took place this past week and exposed attendees, including LVM, to multicultural films from around the world.

newport-beach-film-festLVM kicked-off the festival week by attending the Opening Night Gala, hosted under the stars by Esquire Magazine and Fashion Island.  The exclusive Gala featured culinary tastings from 40 of Orange County’s premiere restaurants, including treats from the Back Bay Bistro at Newport Dunes.  The event also showcased a special performance from Taylor Hicks and live sets from local DJs.

Overall, we are pleased to say that the Festival was successful in bringing to Orange County the best of classic and contemporary filmmaking from around the world, delivering a first-class international film program that provided a forum for cultural understanding and educational opportunities.

We especially enjoyed screening the film “Gauchos Del Mar – Surfeando el Pacífico Americano“, which follows two Argentinian brothers that are traveling through the American Continent, from Los Angeles to Buenos Aires, and living their dream of surfing the American Pacific coastline.  Directed by Julian Azulay, the film truly portrays the beauty of the coastline and cultures of Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru and the western United States.

Part of the Festival’s mission is to embrace the diversity of its community; thus the Newport Beach Film Festival proudly supported local non-profit organizations through its Community Outreach Program. The program was created with the idea that film offers new perspectives and possibilities for a changing world.  Every year, the Newport Beach Film Festival partners with several non-profit organizations in Orange County from various areas including the arts, health and human services, the environment, education, children’s causes and alumni clubs.  Each organization is then paired with a film that is likely to attract an audience interested in its cause and given an opportunity to speak to film audiences prior to the screenings, allowing the organizations to receive exposure and a chance to connect with filmmakers, other non-profit groups and more than 52,000 attendees annually.

Celebrating its 14th year, the Festival featured an international line-up of 400+ films, which showcased a diverse collection of studio and independent films, as well as a Family Film Series, meant for filmgoers of all ages.  We are thrilled to have participated in this year’s program and applaud the Newport Beach Film Festival for bringing such a unique array of films and talent to Orange County.   For more information, visit newportbeachfilmfest.com.

Recap & Highlights from Hispanicize 2013, The 4th Annual Latino Trends Event of the Year

Hispanicize

LVM recently traveled to Miami Beach, Florida for Hispanicize 2013, an important annual event that brings together professionals that are focused on the Latino market within social media, public relations, advertising, journalism, film and music.  After engaging in five full days of education, entertainment, and rekindling with colleagues, clients, bloggers and journalists, we returned home to California exhausted and fully inspired!   Here is a recap and some of our favorite highlights from the 4th Annual Latino Trends Event of the Year:

Hispanic Market Trends 2013: Top Marketers took an In-Depth Look at the Cultural and Marketing Shifts

In the midst of an ever growing digital revolution, the Hispanic and multicultural marketing world is experiencing massive change.  At a time when major TV networks are being launched, social media is exploding and bicultural marketing is finally taking off.  Speakers from AARP (Raquel “Rocky” Egusquiza), Sherwin-Williams (Jason Riveiro) and Target (Nydia Shagun) helped us understand how senior Hispanic and multicultural brand executives are tackling these and other pressing questions of the Hispanic market industry. We also gained insight on:

  • The top cultural trends Hispanic marketers are paying most attention to
  • Social media strategies and tactics that show the most and least potential with brands
  • Potential marketing implications of changes in the immigration policies
  • Latino trend setters brands most admire in music, film and culture
  • What brands REALLY think about the major realignments going on at the major Hispanic TV networks
  • How brands are aligning their digital strategies with their non digital platforms

Hollywood Icons Take Part in The Adelante Movement: The Wisdom of Latina Legends

We’re still spinning from The Adelante Movement luncheon, hosted by the inspiring Nely Galan, founder of The Adelante Movement, and featuring Hollywood icons Rita Moreno and Charo. Presented by The Coca-Cola Company, these legends provided us with their insights regarding economic and personal empowerment, career and financial success, as well as health, wellness and longevity.

“I have firm faith in the untapped potential of women at home and around the world,” proclaimed West Side Story Actress, Rita Moreno.  “We are not victims…we are agents of change…drivers of progress…makers of peace…all we need is a fighting chance.”

The Leading Conservative & Liberal Voices of Hispanic Journalism

In the wake of the 2012 Presidential election, the Hispanic voting bloc has become an increasingly important one with major ramifications on our nation. Every day and on almost any network, one can witness an intelligent and prominent Latino voice offering perspective on the issues of the day. Immigration reform is heating up, more Latinos are represented in Congress than ever before, Democrats are pushing legislation on various fronts dealing with Latino issues and the Republican National Committee recently announced outreach to Hispanics as their single biggest focal point in the years ahead.

Speakers from FOX News (Rick Sanchez), The Jeffrey Group (Mike Valdes-Fauli), Dewey Square Group (Marla Cardona), Capital Gains (Carlos Currbelo) and El Show de Fernando Espuelas (Fernando Espuelas) discussed these debatable topics facing our nation.

We were continually impressed by the caliber of speakers, brands and media that we engaged with at Hispanicize 2013 and look forward to next year’s event!  For additional insights and key takeaways, check out Manny Ruiz’s (Founder of Hispanicize) overview “Key Takeaways, Memories and Other Highlights from Hispanicize 2013“.   Gracias por todo Hispanicize 2013!

LVM to Participate in ‘Searching for Cesar Chavez’: A National Live-Streamed Event at Hispanicize 2013

Cesar Chavez

We are thrilled to participate in the ‘Searching for Cesar Chavez’ event at Hispanicize 2013 in Miami!  The National Town Hall live-streamed event, hosted by Hispanicize 2013 and the Friends of the American Latino Museum, will take place on April 13th and involve national experts, media and elected officials.  Honoring the 20th anniversary of Cesar Chavez’s passing and just months after the presidential election in which U.S. Hispanics cast the decisive votes, the event will tackle one of the most common questions Latinos often ask themselves: Who is our modern day Cesar Chavez?  A Pew Hispanic Center survey from a recent article suggests that Latinos believe they do not have a national leader and could be losing opportunities by not having a strong, dynamic national spokesperson.

“With over 50 million American Latinos in this nation, strong Latino leadership is vital to ensuring our community’s voice is heard,” said Cid Wilson, Board Chair for the Friends of the American Latino Museum, in a recent article from Hispanicize. “We are proud to partner with Hispanicize for this panel that will highlight our cultural leaders throughout history while building recommendations to nurture the leaders of tomorrow.”

Set up as an interactive town hall stylized meeting, the event will live stream to the Friends of the American Latino Museum’s 325,000 subscribers (including over 250,000 Facebook and Twitter followers).  This ‘cultural summit’ will discuss where Latinos truly stand in America today and conclude with actionable steps that could help change history.

Back Bay Bistro Hosts Luncheon to Honor ‘Longest Married Couple’ Finalists

In keeping with the Valentine’s Day theme of LOVE, Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort’s Back Bay Bistro recently held a search for the local area’s Longest Married Couple. To honor the finalists, certificates for the Bistro were provided, along with plaques and the opportunity to give marriage advice to reception attendees.

With over 25 submissions, the six chosen finalists were: Robert and Rosalie Lynch (married 72 years), George and Elaine Brown (married 70 years), Tom and Jean Naughton (68 years), John and Elaine Nelson (married 63 years), Bobby and Kathy Brennan (married 61 years) and Ed and Mary Kathryn Romeo (married 61 years). Like celebrities at a press conference, the couples sat side by side at a long banquet table and joked and teased as they explained how they found their life partners decades ago.

When asked what the secret is to a successful marriage is, a few responses included: respect, a good sense of humor and give and take. The fact that these couples have been together longer than most people have been alive, let alone committed to someone else, is truly remarkable!

Hot Products & Big Trends From CES 2013

As this year’s consumer electronics show comes to a close today, we would like to take a minute to share some of the Hot Products & Big Trends from CES 2013.  Since it is nearly impossible to see everything at this massive show,  we’ve relied on feedback from experts such as Gizmodo and iLounge to bring you this list:

Tobii Rex – Tobii’s technology uses your eyes to replace your mouse cursor. REX attaches to the underside of your LCD monitor and after about 30 seconds of training, the REX’s electronic eyes follow your own, allowing you to control your cursor with just your eyes. It’s amazingly accurate, although you’ll still need to “click” with your keyboard.

Incipio’s CashWrap – CashWrap ($60) is a mobile wallet for the iPhone 5 featuring an NFC chip and secure micro SD card.  The case pairs with an Isis-developed app, enabling you to reduce the number of physical credit cards you’re carrying around by virtualizing them. It will be released this spring. Thank you Incipio for creating a case where 2 of our necessities are combined into 1 simple solution!

Harman

Harman’s Augmented Reality Windshield Display – Law makers across the country are working to make the roads safer by encouraging hands-free devices and banning the use of smartphones while driving. Harman’s solution: Fill the windshield with widgets and info, like weather apps and YouTube videos. Although hands-free, how can these distracting icons be any safer?

Basis Band – Being that we are health nuts here at LVM, we were stoked to learn about the Basis Band, a fitness/health tracking device shaped like a wristwatch. What’s most amazing about the Basis Band is that it doesn’t just give you data, it analyzes that data and gives you educated recommendations. For example, instead of simply stating how many calories you burned, it will tell you to get up and walk around the office for 15 minutes if you want to meet today’s health goal.  It’s truly the next generation of fitness trackers!

Samsung Flexible Displays – By showing off a phone with a flexible screen, Samsung is hinting at a day when we might fold up our large phone or tablet screens as if they were maps. The phone Samsung presented consisted of a matchbox-sized hard enclosure, with a paper-thin, flexible color screen attached to one end. The screen doesn’t appear flexible enough to fold in half like a piece of paper, but it could bend into a tube.

In addition to these ‘Hot Products”, there were a variety of ‘Big Trends’ evident at this year’s show.  The biggest trends from CES 2013, according to PCMag.com, were: Ultra High Definition (4K) TVs, Touch Screen PCs, Next-Generation Mobile Chipsets, In-Car Smartphone Integration, Digital Health, Non-Traditional Gaming Devices, Wireless Audio and Video, and Wireless Cameras.

How to Experience CES 2013 Virtually

CES 2013As you may already know, the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) begins TODAY in Las Vegas.  The Wall Street Journal breaks the show down in layman’s terms:

“CES, as the event is universally called, is used by many high-tech companies to show off what they have developed—as well as product plans for the rest of the year. The event has assumed increased importance as consumer purchases of goods have topped revenue from business customers for many electronics companies.”

If you are looking for the newest gadget from Microsoft or the trendiest new iPhone 5 case from Incipio, CES is the place to be.  If you can’t be there, however, you can still experience CES via minute-by-minute updates from top bloggers and reporters that are combing the show floor for the latest and greatest.  We recommend checking out the following outlets to discover the latest technological advances of 2013 and beyond:

Blogs:  Visit Engadget,  Gizmodo and iLounge.  Other suggested blogs are: CrunchGear, GearLive, SlashGear, PCMag, and CNET.

Twitter:  If you want to watch the tweet streams in the Twittershpere from all the active tweeters attending CES, search for CES trends like #CES13 and #CES.

Real-time coverage and daily wrap ups to watch:

Official CES Social information: Follow the news directly on CES’ Social Channels.

Finally, you can always come back and visit LVM’s blog for updates as well!
